Title: Growing Up
Author:
moit
Fandom: The Faculty,
honeyandvinegar's Torrin 'verse; If you haven't read at least, Just Like You, this isn't going to make any sense.
Rating: PG
Summary: Torrin's growing up, and it's harder on him than it is on his Dads.
Genre: Angst
Word Count: 362
Frowning, Torrin flicks the silver ring that is threaded through his left nipple. He has a matching one on the right nipple, but he’s jarred them both in the last three days, making one hurt like hell, and the other a gross scabby mess. As he ponders the fate of his nipple jewelry, his phone rings.
“’Lo?”
“Hey, Tor.”
“Hi, Dad,” Torrin sighs. Leave it to Dad to call at a time like this.
“You sound upset. Is something wrong?”
Torrin contemplates his nipples again. What the hell. “I’m thinking about taking the rings out of my nipples, and it’s a rather depressing thought.”
“You pierced your nipples?” Of course it had to be Dad #2. Dad #1 would probably have laughed and asked why he wasn’t invited along. At least this Dad would let him know that it’s OK to say goodbye to nipple rings.
“Dad, I did it like five years ago. And did you miss the part about taking them out?”
Casey is silent for a moment. “Well, if that’s what you want to do, then I support your decision.”
“Well, it’s not like anybody’s going to care. Most of my friends don’t even know I have them.”
“Uh huh.”
“It just feels like I’m saying goodbye to a younger version of myself—like I’m finally giving in to adulthood.”
Casey chuckles. “I know you’re too young to remember this, but your dad felt the same way when he got rid of the GTO. Trust me, Torrin, it’s completely okay to let go of your past. If you don’t, you can never leave room for the future.”
“Thanks, Dad.” Casey’s words actually make him feel a lot better. “So why did you call? Did you need something?”
“Oh, yes. Your Dad and I wanted to know if you if you and Sasha would like to come over for dinner on Friday. I’m making barbeque chicken.”
“That sounds good.”
“Okay, we’ll see you then.”
“I love you, Dad.”
“Love you, too, Tor.”
Torrin ends the call. He stares down at the hoops decorating his nipples.
Growing up is Hell, he decides as he lays the identical rings on the table.
