Pippin coughed and blew his nose into Merry's hankerchief loudly. "Thanks," he said, handing the cloth back to his cousin.
Merry gripped the edge of the handkerchief with two fingers and smiled tightly.
"Oh, Merry?" Pippin asked as Merry turned to leave the room. "Might you bring me another bowl of that soup? I think I can bear to eat another."
Although Pippin had already eaten several bowls, Merry tried his best not to begrudge the youngster. He'd been in bed for nearly two weeks with the flu. They all hoped he'd be well enough to open his presents soon.
